Our Story - Circa Summer 2010

This is a website built to log some of the antique outboard motor projects that have blessed us with a new found passion for a father and son to share. There are so many other interests that a young man in his early teen years could get into that may not include the 'old man' so I feel fortunate that we have stumbled into the hobby together. With so many kids spending all their free time with their heads stuck against a video monitor in some shape or form, it is nice to have a tangible interest that takes them away from the 'over-information age'. Not to mention what idle hands and minds can lead to ...

But before I start into any rambling about our 'moment of epiphany' and ventures to date I know I should first mention that without the loving support of a very accomadating wife and mom, the two of us would not be spending endless hours in and out of the house from the aforementioned cold, dirty and, purportedly stinky garage.

For my part, I provide the transportation, financing (since a kids allowance will only get him so far at Canadian Tire) and some mechanical skills I think I possess. This claim is not without its critics.

So all this father son stuff is great for me but ... well as long as none of Jordans' buddies know he sometimes hangs out with 'the old man', we're good!

So, with respect to how we got started, much like I suspect many others that have found themselves standing in a cold garage over the winter months, bruising their knuckles and coating themselves in 50-plus-year-old grease and dirt, we had a defining moment that sent us along this path.

We also have the added benefit of having our own 'in house' registered nurse for any of the rare incidents that our mechanical or physical invincibility is challenged. Marnie is the keeper of the 'tools of medicine' ie. Polysporin and Band-Aids.

I'd also like to thank my son Jordan for putting up with dear ol' dad sharing his new found hobby with him. It is sort of a symbiotic relation in that he provides the forward drive in acquiring the next project with his eagerness to attain what he sees in books and on the web.

Do to the nature of the new world society in which we reside, I also must mention that this website is for entertainment purposes only and that if I happen to suggest a way that I have accomplished a task (perhaps the long way or the wrong way) or an opinion I voice on a way to solving a problem, it is strictly opinion and not a recommendation to others to do the same.
